Mariah Carey was born in Long Island, New York. She was named after the song “They Call Me Wind Mariah.” She began singing at the age of four. She then began writing her own songs by the time she was in middle school. Her musical career began in New York City.

She began by singing back-up for Brenda K. Starr. Now Mariah Carey is the best- selling female artist of all times. She has also received two Grammy awards. She writes and composes her own music.

In May 2002, signed a contract with Universal Music Group's Island Records. She has also created her own music label called “MonarC Music. The first release of MonarC is “Charm Bracelet”
